4.5 - Audio Book Template
Introduction:
This Template is to be used for audio books of all
formats.
When adding new record use the following values:
· Format = MUSIC
· Entries Template = TEMPLATE
a) GMD - Replace [sound recording] with one of the
following, depending on item format:
[audio book CD]
[audio book MP3]
[audio book playaway]
[e-audiobook]
Playaway audio books do not
need the format (eg MP3) included on the bib record as they work on any media
player.
b) Do not treat a book with a sound disc as an
audio book. They should be record type ‘a’ and have no GMD. Check the 300 tag
to be sure of the physical entity. Do not add GMDs unnecessarily. Use the call
number and copy details for local practices.
c) For Non Fiction Audio books, add nonfiction
subjects and other author tags as set out in the Non Fiction template.
d) Where Audio Books are identical in terms of
readers, duration and number of discs, treat as for duplicate books and add the
additional ISBN to the 2nd or subsequent 020 tag.
e) 245 tag – n and p subfields to be added if
necessary by individual libraries. Make sure reader is in the |c subfield after
author if downloading an LA record, or when creating a new title. e.g. Michael
Palmer ; read by John Charles.
f) 300 tag – enter material type as: CD/s ;
cassettes ; MP3 e.g. 2 CDs ; 1 MP3 ; M4b ; sound media player. If an MP3 has an
accompanying M4b, add both to this field. e.g. 1 MP3 (11 hr. 30 min.), 1 M4b
(11 hr. 30 min.)
g) 336/337/338 tags - Content, Media and Carrier Type
tags are validated fields. Select the appropriate entry from the field/subfield
entries provided.

h) 500 tag – If an MP3 item has an accompanying
M4b, add note: Includes M4b file for use with iTunes.
i) 505 tag – selective contents notes are optional.
j) 511 tag – leave reader tag if downloading an LA
record, do not add if creating a new title.
k) 650 tag – subjects are optional.
l) 700 tag – make sure author added entry for
reader is in the LA record, add when creating a new title.
