4.6 - Music CD Template
Introduction:
This Template is to be used for all music CDs, including
MP3 discs.
When adding new record use the following values:
· Format = MUSIC
· Entries Template = TEMPLATE
a) GMD - Replace [sound recording] with one of the
following, depending on audio format:
[music CD]
[music MP3]
b) 024 tag – Add the product barcode found on the
back of the item. Scan barcode, or, if the number is keyed in, do not include
dashes or spaces.
c) 028 tag – Add the publisher number which is
usually found on the spine or on the disc surface but may be on the back of the
case as well. Type in the number as it appears on the item – include dashes and
spaces. For multivolume sets, include the set publisher number only.
d) Title
Control Number MUST be automatic/system generated. Do not include a 500 tag
for the 024 OR 028 tags OR change the Title Control Number from the system
generated number for the product barcodes or publisher numbers.
e) Where music CDs are identical in terms of
performers, duration and original release date but have different distributors
and dates of publication, treat as duplicates for books and add the new product
barcode and publisher number in separate 024 and 028 tags.
f) 245 tag – Subfields n and p to be added if
necessary by individual libraries.
g) 300 tag – Enter material type as: CD/s ; cassettes
e.g. 6 CDs ; 4 cassettes.
h) 336/337/338 tags - Content, Media and Carrier
Type tags are validated fields. Select the apropriate entry from the
field/subfield entries provided.

i) 505 tag – Selective contents notes are optional.
j) 521 tag – Target audience – required for
material classified “MA” and “R”.
k) 650 tag – Subjects are optional.
l) 655 tag – Music genres are optional (see point
4.6.2 below for the list of genres).
m) 700 tag - It is not necessary to create 700 tags
for performers but add details in the 511 tag which is searchable.
