4.8 - Magazine Template
Introduction:
This Template is to be used for all
magazine/periodical/serial title records.
When adding new record use the following values:
Format = SERIAL
Entries Template = TEMPLATE
a) GMD - All titles must have the following GMD
added:
[magazine]
b) 245 tag - n and p subfields to be added if
necessary by individual libraries.
c) Each library group will have their own
bibliographic record for each magazine title. There will not be a separate bib
record for each year of a magazine.
d) Title information is to be entered in the
following order in the 245 tag: Title, GMD,
Library code, subtitle - e.g. It girl|h[magazine] [CC] :|bthe must have
magazine for girls.
e) Where
a magazine is published in a language other than English, the title will be
qualified by the specific language - e.g.
Kouzina [Greek]|h[magazine] [CC], Cricket today [Hindi]|h[magazine] [GD]. Where a magazine is
published in more than one language with the same title, a separate bib record
will be created and the title will be qualified by the specific language - e.g.
Gente [Italian]|h[magazine] [GD] ; Gente
[Spanish]|h[magazine] [GD].
f) Title Control Number MUST be automatic/system
generated. Do not use the 022 (ISSN) tag for the TCN.
g) Each library group will attach their own Serial
Control to their own bib record. DO NOT attach a Serial Control to a title
record belonging to another library.
h) There will be one bibliographic record for each
magazine title incorporating details of changes of title unless the magazine
has undergone a major change of title. If the two titles are radically
different, a new bibliographic record and serial control will be created for
the latest title, with appropriate notes on the new and old bib records.
For minor changes to title:
Change 245 tag to match the
latest title. Include the previous title and last issue published under that
title in a 500 tag and add a 246 tag for the previous title.

245 00 Simply patchwork & stitching|h[magazine] [ERL]
246 3# Patchwork
& stitching
246 3# Patchwork and stitching
500 ## Previously
published as: Patchwork & stitching until April 2009.
For a major change of title:
1. On the original bib record add a 500 note with details of the
new title and date of change. Add a 740
tag for the new title.

245 00 Alternative

solutions|h[magazine] [CC]
500 ## Prior to 2008 published as Alternative medicine.

Local Titles for Magazines
Each
Library service must have their own Local title records for magazines, and each
must have their own Serial Control record attached to their magazine titles.
Never
modify or add copies to another Library’s magazine title, and never attach your
Serial Control record for your subscriptions to another Library’s title.
Follow any tag indicators not shown here from the Non
Fiction template.
