6.1 - General/OPAC Clients
Introduction:
SirsiDynix provides a “Discovery Tool” –
a public facing catalogue, with additional functionality, for Libraries to offer their patrons. Each Library service
within the Consortium will have its own OPAC (online public access catalogue) environment and discovery layer
domain address. While many aspects of a Library’s OPAC can be configured
independently of other libraries (such as branding and hold pickup libraries),
some elements are global and will require consensus agreement as to their
configuration.
This section briefly outlines each of the OPAC
environments/services available to Libraries and their patrons.
6.1.1 – Library catalogue - Enterprise/Portfolio
Enterprise is the primary OPAC interface used by Libraries Victoria. It is a Discovery Layer product, using fuzzy logic searching and faceted search results, configurable search limits and the option to include additional federated search targets. Enterprise also has a full Content Management System, and can be used as a library’s website and main online presence.
Portfolio is the digital asset management “plugin” for Enterprise, providing the option to upload and index digital files such as images, PDFs, and any other digfital format. Commonly used for managing digitised local history collections, but can be used for other collections, such as book club notes and council documents.
Website Domain
Each Library service is assigned its own domain address as a subdomain of the Consortium libsvic.ent.sirsidynix.net.au address. The subdomain will be assigned the four letter code identifier of the member Library - for instance cclc.libsvic.ent.sirsidynix.net.au. Other domains may also be registered by each Library if they wish and configured on the SirsiDynix server.
Libraries can configure the
following local elements:
· Branding
and logo, including custom CSS and content.
· Additional
search targets and search limits.
· Hold
Pickup Locations
· Optional
facets.
· Quicksearch
buttons
Global policies in Enterprise, shared by all member
libraries, include:
· Search
result “hit list” (brief record) display.
· Record
detail display.
· Language
labels
Further details about Enterprise/Portfolio, and its
configuration, are outlined in section 6.3 below.
BLUEcloud Mobile is a customised library app for iOS and Android devices. It has a customisable interface, allowing libraries to configure it with their own branding and theme, as well as local content, search limits, and search targets.
A Libraries Victoria BC Mobile app has been developed, and every Library on the shared platform has their own profile/theme, visible to their users when they login with their barcode and password. Each Library's profile can be configured according to their local needs, and will include that library's own design elements, content and search targets.
Each individual branch library has a BC Mobile Profile,
and libraries may configure their profile according to
their preferences. Customisable options include:
- Search
- Library
Information
- Library
Messaging
- Lists
- Menus
Libraries may opt for third party OPAC products, such as alternative discovery layers or mobile apps, if they so choose. While every effort will be made to assist in the integration of third party products, formal application support cannot be provided by the Systems Administrator.
