10.1 - General Principles
Introduction:
Libraries Victoria uses standardised RFID policies and procedures to facilitate RFID tag interoperability between member Libraries. For Interoperability to be successful the following specifications must be used consistently by all member Libraries.
- – ISO 28560 standard – “information and Documentation – RFID for Libraries”
All RFID vendors providing services to Libraries Victoria Libraries must have their RFID tag encodings certified independently by a certification provider nominated by the Consortium.
Certification must ensure that the tags conform with both the ISO 28560 standards (parts 1 and 2) as well as the agreed Libraries Victoria tag configuration and encoding protocols (see 11.2 below).
Common item security architecture must exist between RFID equipped libraries and must be based on the dual AFI functionality specified within ISO 28560.
10.1.2 - Tags and Barcodes
RFID Libraries must continue to add Item ID Barcodes to their items to ensure the items can be issued and returned at non RFID libraries.
Barcodes printed on the RFID tags themselves are a suitable alternative to a separate barcode label, so long as they are easily accessible for scanning, and are not covered by book jackets or other material, that prevent the barcode from being scanned.
