10.3 - Protocols & Procedures
Introduction
The following RFID protocols must be complied with by all member Libraries implementing RFID systems.
10.3.1 - Barcodes
An RFID equipped library must continue to apply barcode labels readable by other non-RFID equipped libraries.
Barcodes printed on the RFID labels themselves are a suitable alternative to adding a separate barcode label to the item, so long as the barcode on the RFID label is easily accessible and not hidden by book jackets or other material.
10.3.2 - Intra Library Loans
In order to facilitate the seamless borrowing of Intra Library loan items between Libraries Victoria members non-RFID enabled libraries are assumed to have given permission to RFID enabled libraries to tag and encode any of their BOOKS that are circulated via RFID systems. Other formats can only have temporary tags applied.
These items must be tagged and encoded according to specified Libraries Victoria procedures and Libraries Victoria Mandatory Data elements and handled by appropriately trained staff at the RFID enabled libraries. (as per 10.2.8)
